Madeira

Below is all the Madeira we have available.

Blandy's 5-year-old Bual Madeira: A distinctly sweet Madeira with plenty of nutty honey and caramel flavours and aromas. This would be a wonderful partner for a piece of dark chocolate (70% cocoa and above) or a bowl of mixed nuts.

Cossart Gordon 5 Years Old Fine Dry Sercial Madeira: TASTING NOTE: The very first thing that strikes you is the viscous amber-coloured liquid that pours from the bottle. The aromas are redolent of almonds, raisins and dates and the flavours are a dazzling array of orange rind, nuttiness and bone dry zest. The grape, Sercial, and in this instance a style of Madeira (dry) is known as Esgana Cão (dog strangler) in Portugal due to its racy acidity. A wonderful aperitif, serve chilled with roasted almonds. Score: 4 Stars (out of 5) (Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com, May 12, 2007)

Henriques & Henriques Single Harvest Madeira 1998: TASTING NOTE: Greenish burnt umber colour. Startlingly fresh citrus peel flavour with a fine almond component. Perfumed with vanilla. Incredible freshness soars through the complexity. Long and such fine orange zest purity. Good value. Score: 17 (out of 20) (Julia Harding MW, www.jancisrobinson.com, Oct. 20, 2009)

Justino 10-years-old Malvasia Madeira: TASTING NOTE: Aromas of caramel, molasses, marmalade, buckwheat, dried apricots and honey rise from the glass. The palate is sweet and nicely balanced with wonderful echoes of the nose with distinct traces of toffee and walnuts with a long, sweet and spicy finish. Perfect for around the nut bowl. (VINTAGES panel, June 2011)

Justino's 5 Years Old Reserve Fine Rich Madeira: Justino's is one of the oldest Madeira producers, having been established in 1870. This excellent Madeira boasts tantalizing aromas and flavours of plum preserve, fig, honey, sweet currant, marzipan, orange peel and crème brûlée. With its balanced, tangy acidity and lovely finish, this is really a terrific value. Try it with some smoked duck or a rich game pie. (VINTAGES panel, May 2010)

Leacock's Rainwater Medium Dry Madeira: TASTING NOTE: Medium brick-orange, tending auburn in the glass. Expressive praline, roasted hazelnuts, marmalade, dried orange peel, spice cupboard, and sweet tea notes. Medium in sweetness on the mid-palate, with bright acidity steering the tastebuds towards a medium-dry finish. Intriguing, tangy, full bodied and brimming with character. A sumptuous java note emerges on the long, spicy finish. Enjoy on its own or with moderately sweet desserts, such as pecan cookies or coffee cake. (VINTAGES panel, Sept. 2010)
